SUNDANCE PITCHES IN WITH NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT ELITE RANGE Ready to make the most of the current high levels of interest in the market is Sundance Spas which has launched its Elite Series on the market – a new line of luxury spas which the company says rates the highest for energy efficiency in its class.

Designed from the ground up by the Sundance Spas’ engineering and product development team, the new Elite Series consists of the Constance™ and Victoria™ models that include exclusive improvements, such as energy- efficiency, a high-performance spa cover upgrade and a matching step for easy access that are both optional features.

“According to consumer research, energy efficiency is an important consideration for hot tub owners and for those in the market,” said Larry Ovalle, senior manager of product marketing at Sundance Spas. “For this reason, Sundance Spas is introducing the most energy- efficient hot tub designs in their class with these models. We took the spa design one step further with premium features and sophisticated aesthetics such as a finished cabinetry look on the exterior of the units. We’re also offering an optional matching wood-cabinet step and other amenities that perfect the spa experience.” Unique to both models are optional VersaStep™ heavy-duty, colour-coordinated steps with a handrail for easy spa access that also serves as a towel holder, and built-in storage for towels, sunscreens and other spa accessories. Additionally, the Elite Series offers superior hydrotherapy with patented Fluidix™ jet technology; SMT™ leg jets in the lounge for a targeted calf and hamstring massage; a new cool down seat for easier access, safety and comfort; a low-profile foot dome with up to eight jets and exterior lighting.

The business relocated in March 2010 to larger premises to provide adequate storage for a growing itinerary of spas and parts as well as providing larger office space.

TRADING UP IS STILL A FACTOR Do hot tub retailers go along with the survey which recently highlighted the fact that someone who owns a hot tub is four times more likely to renew and get a new model than make the first decision to buy one?

Most people who bought a spa the first time wanted it for relaxation, says Bob Lauter at Master Spas.

“I think second time round the people who want to go for an upgrade are looking to move on to the next stage. They are looking for therapy from the spa. Which I think is why we have a better chance to encourage them to opt for

new, higher technology spas. They want relaxation, but they also want the ability to have therapy, too. Hot tub manufacturers and designers are constantly coming up with new and attractive ways to get the water moving. They do this with powerful, but not punishing, jets that target specific muscles from back to neck to calves and even wrists.“

In other words once people have a hot tub then they love the experience it offers and at some stage they’ll be looking to upgrade it. Just like with your car, hot tub owners find trading in their old spa for a new one seems to make complete sense. If you bought your hot tub more than five years ago, it is likely that your model is not equipped with the latest features now available, nor is it as energy efficient as 2011 models. With new designs, accessories, and features constantly being added and upgraded on today’s hot tubs, the demand for better products continues to grow.

Some hot tub owners are finding older models are just not as luxurious, says Maax Spas who believes trading up customers will be important in 2011.

“Part of the problem is running costs. Older spas sold six or seven years ago are neither energy efficient nor have the advantage of the
