INSPIRATION DRIVES VISITORS TO ATTEND TRADE SHOWS
www.swimmingpoolnews.co.uk
New research has shown that nine out of 10 people who visit a special pool and spa show are looking for new ideas and inspiration for their businesses. Figures released as part of Salon de la Piscine & Du Spa which takes place in Paris from 3 to 12 December this year gives an insight into the reasons why visitors attend trade shows throughout Europe. The research is significant as events all over Europe try and build up visitors after three tough years for attendances.
The three top reasons given apart from mixing and discussing the industry within the trade included: • 89% visited a show specially to gather trade quotes. • 65% reported in 2011 a project to install pool or spa within a year with a specific budget.
• 71% had a project pool in mind and they wanted a wider feel of what was available in the industry
At the lower end of the scale: • 25% were interested in planning around their pool • 36% were motivated by the installation of a spa, sauna or steam room • 37% were looking for accessories and equipment to complete their installation pool, spa or sauna
Finally, the research showed that seven out of 10 had a pool project which they needed to complete and wanted help with.
2012 WILL SHOW REAL GROWTH SAY US TRADE EXPERTS
The specialist pool and hot tub market in the United States says that 2012 will be the first in five years to show growth.
The message to come out of the United States in the build up to the 2011 International Pool, Spa and Patio Expo in Las Vegas in November was that trade is still difficult. The US specialist pool and spa exhibition market depends on a large number of smaller state and regional shows, more than anywhere else in the world – but it does mean the industry receives more feedback than other countries.
Association of Pool and Spa Professionals spokesman Rik Anston said: “The feedback we have from our regional events is that 2011 will be another year of fighting back where few pool builders feel there will be real growth. This year will see more marketing and promotional activity in the area of hot tubs but we think 2012 will see the full benefits of our co-ordinated activity. “The hot tub market has been more severe and the best we can hope for is progress especially at the top end of the market. We may never see the return to pre recession sales and there have been
so many casualties that the market has changed.”
The US trade is still battling with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act – passed by the US Congress in 2007 and which took effect in 2008. It is believed many pool owners still remain unaware of it.
The Act was passed with the
goal of preventing accidental drownings at pools and a major component is the mandate for all public and commercial pools to have anti-entrapment drain covers installed.
The Las Vegas Show will again
promote a VGB Pavilion providing visitors with VGB Safety Act-related products and services which have grown significantly in the past four years. Sponsored by Pentair Water Pool and Spa and Waterway Plastics, the pavilion will feature displays and a series of demonstrations. The 2011 International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo will be held 2 to 4 November in the Bayside Halls at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The educational conference will be held 30 October to 4 November. Total attendance in Las Vegas last year was 9,255, a 1% increase over the 2009 show.
