MOTORING Four Shires

STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

The Chevrolet Orlando - a great deal of MPV for your money!

T

he Chevrolet Orlando is a lot of car for your money. If you are reading this, you are a valued friend of County Chevrolet in Bicester and could be driving away an Orlando for just over £14,500 - that’s a very good deal by anyone’s standards.

The seven seater MPV is a spacious, flexible vehicle with looks that make it stand out from the crowd. It is noticeable that when driving the Orlando, people take a good look - it is a smart car with confident styling.

The Orlando is a seven seater vehicle - great for taking the kids to football matches on Saturday mornings. The seats fold down effortlessly however, to take those larger loads that need shifting occasionally. The first thing that struck me when driving the

Orlando was the spacious feel of the interior. There is good room above the head - and I’m not short - and one steps into the car - not up and over, making the move to the seat a slide - not a drop!

Once seated, the views all around are very good in the Orlando. There is a lot of glass and the wing mirrors are a wonderful boon - parallel parking is made simple with the rear view offered by

these dishes. There is another very clever mirror residing in the spectacle holder, it is curved and gives a ‘fish eye’ view behind the driver; perfect for keeping an eye on the little horrors in the back.

Driving the Orlando is very easy for what looks like a very large car. There is power steering on all the models and the gearbox is very silky - the model I tested had six gears and ran a diesel engine - consequently, at times, the computer on the dashboard indicated I was getting nearly 60 to the gallon! The instruments were bright and easy to decode - the on board computer giving trip, average and actual fuel consumption. My particular favourite bit of modern technology was the Ipod dock which manged to hide away the apparatus whilst giving total compatability. The B4031 and pop music go together well! I liked the beeping proximity warning sensor and the headlamps gave wonderful visibility in the dark - the Orlando was really starting to grow on me.

On first acquaintance I was intrigued to see how the car would drive - within five minutes I had forgotten I was behind the wheel of a demonstrator vehicle - it really was that comfortable to use. The Orlando reminds me of the big motors used by the bosses in those HBO dramas. It is definitely an ‘aspirational’ car - but you don’t have to be a hoodlum to get your hands on one!
