hope you didn’t notice, but last month’s magazine was a couple of days late hitting the

news stands. Our printer, who has gone into liquidation since, decided our magazine was not as important as other publications and decided not to print...without informing us! We all felt just a little let down as we had all worked hard to hit our deadlines. Luckily, our local printer, Banbury Litho in Bloxham, stepped in and turned the magazine around in three days. Our thanks go to them. As disasters go, it was on a par with the day we lost three week’s worth of production when our computers crashed irretrievably. All things are comparative however and writing this on the day we heard news of the earthquake in New Zealand and recent floods in Australia, our problems pale into insignificance. To all our subscribers ‘down under’ we offer our sympathies. On a brighter note, our fantastic cover picture this month was taken

by Jacky Richardson of Preston Bissett nurseries near Buckingham (www.thenurseries.com). Jacky is a specialist flower photographer and her lovely snowdrop shot is a cracker. The arrival of the snowdrop is always a timely reminder that the worst of the winter hardships are behind us and spring is just around the corner. To see a glorious covering of snowdrops, head out to Hanwell, where, if you use the footpath near the church, you will find a carpet of the tiny flowers transforming a hillside copse.

With the arrival of spring our thoughts turn to the gardens and it was with glee that I found out that a member of the Four Shires’ team had taken over an allotment in her village. I have been ‘allotmenteering’ for 10 years now and have bored everyone in the office on numerous occasions with tales of the benefits to be gained from the patch. With prices rising (green beans in shrink wrapped plastic can cost upwards of £1.20!) allotments are fast becoming an economic boon as well as a tasty and therapeutic one. Good luck with the plot Barbs!
