Dear Sirs, The picture of the gentleman with all the medals in the

February ‘Pictures from the Past’ section is Dr Briggs. He was a fine Banbury doctor with the Horsefair Surgery. The old Horsefair surgery had a room named after him but sadly they did not care to take his memory to the new surgery. An ex military man, he served Banbury well. I also think he was a founder member of Tadmarton golf course. Name and address supplied

On the prowl with Dog

D

og would like to urge the canine owners of Banbury

to please clean up after their pooches. He was disturbed to hear, from a friend, about the amount of ‘mess’ she had to endure walking but 100 metres from her car to the Four Shires offices! It is not difficult to take a small bag with you when dog walking to tidy up the offending ‘mess’. Dog’s friend wouldn’t mind but it is neither nice to trail it around on ones shoes, or have to walk with your eyes firmly on the ground, in the fear of stepping in it! Not to mention the hygene problems it causes. Please, if you do own a dog, be considerate to those who have to walk the pavements of Banbury.

Dear Sirs, I have some information regarding one of the photos in the February edition of the magazine. The picture (above) shows, first on the right is Audrey Cherry, superintendent of The ladies Banbury Division, St John ambulance - then Dr Briggs, along with Mr Neil Martin M.P, Dr Coles, just in view and Margaret Booker. I am not sure about the other officer,

Regards Ray Cherry

Trek Peru

Dear Cathy, I would like to bring a challenge I am embarking on to the

attention of Four Shires readers. Each time we are told someone we care for, be it a loved one,

family or friend has cancer, we cannot describe the feeling of hopelessness we feel. Often at times not knowing what to say, do or react. I have decided to ‘sieze the day’ and have signed up to ‘Trek Peru’. So on May 7th I will be doing a 45km trek, up steep trails climbing to 4200m. I will be among 60 other trekkers, who are all doing this for

different reasons but with one main result, to raise as much money for Macmillan cancer support as we possibly can. If you would like to support this cause you can sponsor me at www.justgiving/joanne-taylor6 Any amount would be greatfully appreciated.

Regards Jo Taylor

Do you know these people?

Many thanks to Gay Mathie for sending us the above picture. She found the picture in a piece of furniture she bought from

Steven Bruce, an auctioneer in Stratford. The picture appears to have been taken at Kings Norton train

station. The occasion however, remains unknown. The only piece of information on the back of the photograph is that the picture was taken by ‘The Holloway Studio’ in Birmingham. If any of our readers know the occasion, or indeed any of the people in the picture, we, at The Four Shires would love to hear from you.

If you have information on anything which appears in the magazine please donʼt hesitate to contact us here at The Four Shires
