G‘day Guys T E S
his modern world that we live in is making us all
want news and information quicker and quicker! Something that is very difficult in our BULL
especially as we publish only Spring, Summer & Winter, which obviously means that this Spring edition has a lot about Christmas and winter activities. Mind you I do think it nice to be able to look back don't you?
xciting times ahead? Not only are we publishing all your activities in the BULL we have also started to
show videos on our Club Web-Site www.hornchurchrotary.0rg Videos that are for the Public to view and those only for Rotarians, to be viewed with
the use of a members Password (if you do not have a password or have forgotten it then please let me know and I will provide you with another).
ad news as you know, Margareta Hamilton and Colin Freeman have now resigned from our Club
and Rotary activities. I say sad because I am aware of the great work that they have done for Rotary in general and the many hours that they must have put into our Club Web-Site. Due to their resignation I was asked by our Council to take the challenge as your Webmaster and Silly old me - I accepted! Seriously, though, I do enjoy playing about with software programmes so it should not be too much of a hassle. Our BULL Editor George & Proof reader Jim have both agreed to support me with this challenge by supplying the same duties that do with the BULL. This will create two new titles IT Editor & IT Proof Reader, perhaps we can provide Jim with a Pendant as IT Web-Master Assistant & Proof Reader? Especially as Jim has courageously accepted this role even though, Jim realises that he has a lot to learn about IT technology, I thank Jim & George for helping me to take this challenge and faith in me delivering the IT skills to our Clubs expectations. I do intend to introduce training sessions for our members on how to use our Club Web-Site and how to benefit from its use, which could be from a Laptop computer brought to our regular meetings for training before or after the meeting, and/or in my offices that have a suitable office for training with fast internet connection etc.
P
lease be assured that our team effort will create a Web-Site that we will all be proud of. We intend to
create a Site that you will look forward to logging on to and seeing interesting news & Videos about our club and its activities. (something that you want to do! i.e not just to obtain information) I learnt a long while ago that if you can turn your work into fun, then it somehow gets done better! Same as business meetings I always thought that there were two types of meetings, i.e. one that you have to attend and ones that you want to attend. Hence the reason why we have set ourselves the challenge of creating a fun Web-Site so that you will enjoy and look forward to logging on. Perhaps it might bring back out of retirement some of you previous one finger typists and view the wonders that the IT world has now to offer. Sorry no
page 3 girls or Popeye Cartoons, but I do assure you that we intend to create an eye raiser?
W
e are in the process of creating a Criteria for creations on our Web-Site such as we created for
the BULL hereunder:- Criteria for publishing the BULL The text following is copied from our Summer Edition issue date: August 2009 (page 4) which I do believe has been maintained in every edition since. “Current events of our Club to be illustrated by stories, photos, jokes, tables of dates etc, when necessary to be formally serious and informative, however, the main emphasis to be mostly amusing and entertaining information about members activities. Colourful in design, easy reading and large print, overall design content to be for our own club members, although, suitable for non members to read and understand”

nce we have created the web-Site criteria we shall look for Council approval, bearing this in mind
your thoughts and suggestions at this early stage would be much appreciated.
ur Speakers are still being video recorded when I am in the Club and a DVD posted to them
afterwards, although, this year I have many sailing trips booked that will prevent me in being attendance at some speaker meetings so unless another member takes the videos then, sadly the speaker will not be recorded. I have tried not to clash many of my Sailing trips with a Thursday by going on a Friday but some will clash, thereby, I am looking for a volunteer to use their video camera to take records for our Club, I will gladly do the editing afterwards as I do have the software, to do so.
ood-News, Technology is improving, whereas, I look forward to making available all speakers for
all to view via a Web-Site, maybe this year or soon after. The current problem is that I can only stream between 10/15 minutes of video and as you know our speakers last in excess of 30 minutes, perhaps shortly when BT and others get their finger out and improve on our telecommunications I may be able to do so. You may be aware that our telecoms speed is well behind the rest of Europe, so I am currently using what speed is available and working on putting some new technology input into our Club Web-Site, such as Videos that pop out of the page, obviously related to the appropriate event in the BULL. As you may know Flip Page Technology is already established on our Web-Site, although, I do not know how to do the ―pop-out-of-the-page‖ yet, but I know it can be done - just a matter of learning ha-ha say‘s I. After all I am told that because I am in the IT business I should be able to call upon the expertise and knowledge to do so! Time will tell Watch this space ha-ha
Hope you like this edition
