Speaker Mr Jeremy Batch 10th March 2011
Ancient Port of London

e have many excellent speakers at our club, thanks to Ron Geggus, but you
have to be very special to be asked back and even more special to get an evening meeting dedicated to your subject. In Jeremy Batch we had just that!
eremy‘s first talk was so interesting that we just had to have him back and so on
Thursday 10th. March at our evening meeting at The West Lodge ,Jeremy talked to us about the development of the Port of London and how the docks were created over a period of several hundred years. I was so entertained by his talk that I forgot to take any notes for this article. But that is surely a blessing in disguise because all I would have done is reel off a lot of dates and information that would come across as deadly dull. I would have not done Jeremy's talk any justice. The best thing about this gross error of mine is that if you are interested you will be able to view and listen to the talk that lasted just over 3/4 of an hour on a DVD that Colin Davies has recorded and added to our Video Library,
Colin is looking to put a video link in the future for us all to be able to stream view to our PC‘s – obviously that is when the technology is available? which I understand is in the near foreseeable
future..This way you will be able to see the power point presenta- tion that accompanies the talk, and I hope will capture the excitement which Jeremy generates with his impish sense of humour ,as he describes each picture.

eremy, at one stage in his talk , described himself as an anorak and as I
had the great pleasure of giving the vote of thanks, I described him as my 'favourite' anorak (meant in the nicest possible way) because he made the subject so interesting. I am sure that sometime in the future he will be back. He had the audience in the palm of his hand and the audience showed their appreciation in the time honoured way with a rousing round of applause.

Congratulations to Charis Nelson (daughter of Karen-our waitress) for showing some real initiative. She organised and ran a raffle to raise money to help fund her trip to the international jamboree in Denmark where she will be representing Girl guiding UK and England. She sold tickets at our evening meeting on 10th. March and raised £131.
