Hornchurch and Upminster visit Gants Hill 18th January 2011
O
n the evening of Tuesday 18th. January a
dozen or so of our members and wives visited the Rotary Club of Gants Hill. Their meeting is held in the suite above Kanchars Indian Restaurant which is very near Gants Hill roundabout. We got our times a little out of sync, so most of us arrived a good half an hour before our hosts but with a subsidized bar we did not mind one little bit!
A
s we stood around chatting and drinking the members of Gants
Hill began arriving together with the special guests, The Mayor of Redbridge (a friend our own Geoff Furzland) and the DG of East London. Whilst we mingled, a selection finger foods appeared on the bar and very quickly disappeared as we all tucked in. We took the
opportunity to pay for our meals and one of our members, who shall remain nameless, proceeded, much to the surprise of the stewards, to stuff his money into the
St. Francis Hospice Charity Box!! After some half an hour of chatting, drinking and eating we were called to order for the start of the meeting.
the meal with the President, special guests and the secretary seated in front of the assembled members. During the formalities we were officially welcomed by the President. We were also addressed by the Mayor and the DG and before long the meeting concluded and we were being invited to take our seats at the dining tables. The waiters, resplendent in their traditional costume, were soon bringing out a variety of dishes and loading up the carousel in the centre of the table. The food was as delicious as it looked and there was not much left on our table.
G N
ow, if you like Indian food and you would like to see how
another club conducts its business I would recommend a visit to the Rotary Club of Gants Hill where you
can be sure of a friendly welcome and a glorious meal.
