second (first published) edition. the first edition, 1875, was privately printed and limited to only 50 copies.one of the masterpieces of golf literature and one of the most important contributions to the library of golf.

the three cartoons are captioned “Where’s my ball?”, “one of three” and “keep your eye on the ball”, each is signed in watercolour by cynicus.
martin Anderson, “cynicus”, cartoonist and postcard designer has been described as the “victorian rowlandson” he is hailed as the inventor of the comic postcard.
sold with a copy of elspeth reid and flora davidson’s biography of cynicus The Fortunes of Cynicus Victorian Cartoonist and Postcard Designer (forest lodge 1995).

first edition. part of the Britain in Pictures series. With a typed carbon copy of bernard darwin’s contract to write this book, signed and initialled, loosely inserted. darwin was paid £50 for the book.
