B Company wishes you a warm welcome. We have had a very busy year with the deployment of twelve soldiers to and recovery from Op Herrick 10. The Company has restructured the way we train for future deployments using the Workplace Training Statement (WTS) in order to bridge the gap of the Graduated Commitment Mechanism (GCM). The Company establishment is 107, the Company strength is 95 and we have 28 Recruits in all aspects of training.


Company HQ is currently strong and well supported. Capt Andy Wignall is a very keen and knowledgeable 2ic. His main priorities are to work closely with SPSI Walker to ensure that the WTS is working and is on track to ensure that all Company personnel meet their commitment. Capt Wignall is directed to ensure that all training is in line to meet the GCM to ensure that the gap between TA soldier and the regular soldier is closed to make our soldiers’ deployments more effective. My Company Sergeant Major is WO2 Johnson who has a number of years of regular and territorial experience and who demonstrates this knowledge and experience in his role. He has recently completed an attachment with the 1st Battalion. WO2 Phillips heads the Company’s Recruiting and Retention Team (RRTT) and is assisted by Sgt Gregory who double hats as the ADC recruiter and Platoon Sgt. The RRTT has exceeded all expectations by ensuring that we have recruited, trained and replenished.


Capt Des McEvoy is my Permanent Staff Admin Officer (PSAO), a very experienced officer and a vital part of my Company without whose efforts the Company would not function. Capt McEvoy is assisted by our unsung hero, Mrs Vicky Ford the Company civilian Admin Officer; Vicky works tirelessly to produce the reports and returns that

enable us to monitor recruiting progress and our costings for manpower: these reports and returns are integral for a busy Company. One of the Company’s new assets is WO2 Walker, our new SPSI, who has replaced WO2 Burgess who gave the Company outstanding and loyal support. WO2 Walker is vital to me as a sounding board to ensure that I stay focused on WTS directives from the Training Major. CSgt Ward is another experienced SNCO with operational tours behind him. CSgt Clapperton has completed long service with 1st Battalion The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment and has given extensive service to the Territorial Army.


4 Platoon


Lt John Roberts is a very good officer who leads from the front. He is supported by Sgt Gregory, another very good and experienced SNCO who is focused with 2Lt Roberts on training his Platoon to meet WTS. The Platoon has seen the return of all but two of the soldiers who deployed on Op Herrick 10 which has brought a quality that only deployed soldiers can bring to B Company. Although the Platoon has a shortage of JNCOs, recent promotions are adding to the strength of the Platoon. This can only be a positive point for all Platoon members as this gives us great scope to train and develop young leaders for our future. All riflemen will have the opportunity to step up to the challenge of promotion.


5 Platoon (Recruit Platoon)


This Platoon is a new concept to the Company; it holds all of our new recruits and recruits who have passed CIC. My aim is to produce a complete new Platoon in order to meet our commitment for Op Herrick 17. The task for this regeneration is with Sgt Maher and Cpl Wood, two very experienced


individuals who, themselves, have served on both Op Telic and Op Herrick. Sgt Maher and Cpl Wood are tasked to develop the new recruits using WTS. They will maintain and enhance the individual’s collective skills and focus the middle ground of hybrid warfare. This will be conducted using theatre-specific equipment and they will also be able to pass on their deployment knowledge to the new recruits.


Mortar Platoon


My Mortar Platoon is based at Stockport and is well established. At present, it is commanded by WO2 Mathews, a very experienced Warrant Officer and his Second in Command is an equally capable WO2 Jones who is very dedicated to the Platoon. These two fine individuals are guided by CSgt Crump, the Mortar PSI. Mortar training has been suspended so that all of the Company’s soldiers can meet the WTS commitment. The Platoon has three MFC Sgts, Maher, Musiol and Harrison who have a number of years’ experience between them and who are well capable of deploying and training the Platoon.


Future Deployments - Op Herrick 14


The Battalion is committed to Op Herrick 14 and 17 and we are preparing to play our part in those deployments. Eighteen soldiers have been identified who may be deployed throughout the Brigade on Op Herrick 14 and who are currently closing the gap on the Graduated Commitment Mechanism using WTS in order to be prepared for deployment: this is a very interesting and challenging time for all soldiers in the Company.


Summary


The Company enjoys good morale and is very capable of working together as a team - important to the Company as we move forward to meet the challenges of future deployments. The Company will come to understand that, with positive recruiting and retention, all members of the Company from Officer to Private will reap the rewards through promotion and up to strength platoons which will make training more enjoyable. It is my belief that, by working together, B Company is well placed to meet the commitments of the future.


Promotions and Awards


The Company in its strong foundation and growth has seen a fair number of promotions this year. This shows that the Company is growing and has the right course-qualified
