Of Thetford, Norfolk on 18 September 2010 aged 82. He enlisted into The Sherwood Foresters in 1945 and, after a period at 28 Training Battalion in Northern Ireland, joined the 1st Battalion at Delmenhorst in 1946 and became Signals Sgt from 1946 until 1951. He served with 8th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters and The King’s African Rifles before rejoining the 1st Battalion in Malaya in 1959/60. He was then posted to UK, Northern Ireland and Cyprus and was discharged in 1965. He joined The Mercian Volunteers (TA) in Nottingham until 1968. After leaving the Army, John moved to Norfolk and worked as a Credit Controller for a Timber Firm in Kings Lynn until retirement.
WITHINGTON Malcolm LCpl
Of Rugeley in April 2009 aged 63. He served with C Company 1st Battalion the Mercian Volunteers in Rugeley in 1973. He was promoted to LCpl and served until 1980. He then became an active fund raiser for the Rugeley Branch of the Association and was a founding member of the Rugeley Branch of the Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association in 2006.

CHANT Darren WO1 GREN GDS
WO1 Darren Chant Was RSM of 1st Battalion The Grenadier Guards and was killed alongside four other soldiers in Afghanistan on 3 November 2009 by a renegade Afghan Policeman. He had been attached to C Company 1st Battalion The Staffordshire Regiment during the First Gulf War and took a full part in the Battalion’s operations.
CHAPPEL Donald Peter Lt Col RAPC
Born in Ontario in 1933, Don Chappel enlisted into the Army at 17 years of age and joined the Rhine Staff Band of The Royal Tank Regiment. He transferred to The Royal Army Pay Corps in 1958 and was Paymaster with 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment from November 1982 in Hemer until April 1985 in Warminster.

TOMLINSON Esther,
Wife of Cpl Arthur Tomlinson on 30 October 2009. Cpl Tomlinson served with The Sherwood Foresters and The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment from 1952 until 1980.
VERNON-PARRY James Maj
Of Carlton in Lindrick on 23 May 2010 aged 84. After qualifying as a Doctor from Manchester University, he joined the Fleet Air Arm and became an air crash specialist. At the conclusion of his National Service, he retired from naval duties in the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and he moved to Northern Ireland where he qualified as a gynaecologist, becoming later a Consultant Obstetrician. He moved to Nottinghamshire and he joined 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment as Regimental Medical Officer, a position he held for 10 years. He was a member of the Beckingham Military shoot and he also enjoyed fishing.
