Support Company exists for the benefit of others, providing the specialist combat power required in a modern Battlegroup on operations. The past year has seen the Company supporting in all four corners of the world from the desolate moonscape of the Falklands through to the enduring heat of

the Kenyan plains and to the less glamorous plains of the Salisbury variety. Considering that the Company had to re-form completely following Op Telic 11, it has come a long way over the past twelve months; the dedication and professionalism of the soldiers are self- evident.

There have been some fundamental changes to the way we do our business, most notably through the establishment of the Fire Support Groups (FSGs) through a fusion of our heavy weapons and Javelin precision strike capabilities. These FSGs become organic to the Rifle Company whom they support and add additional mettle to their Infantry bayonets on operations. Demanding training also means that we now have

probably the most effective sniper, mortar and reconnaissance capabilities in recent memory within the Battalion.

Whilst the majority of activity has focused on our capability on the battlefield, Support Company has also demonstrated its prowess on the sports field, winning comfortably the recent Battalion sports competition, particularly with its “world class” tug-of-war team. Victory was also apparent during the Inter-Company Competition where we were the best non-Gurkha Company. Fire Support Platoon winning the Earl of Chester’s Competition was the icing on the cake and put the Rifle Companies firmly in their place!
