HANSON Kenneth Pte 22953500


to the 70th Battalion stationed in Brigg, Lincolnshire. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion and served in Tunisia, including in the battle for Medjez El Bab. He served with the 2nd Battalion at Salerrno and Anzio in January 1944 and in June 1944 at the Fall of Rome. Later, he attended the Central Mediterranean School of Mechanics at Benevento in July 1944 where he achieved the grade of Driver/Mechanic Grade 1. He rejoined the Battalion at Assissi and then moved to Palestine, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. Posted to Western Command at Chester in July 1946 he later was discharged from the Regiment in December that year.


HEEKS Wilfred Harper


Of Worcester on 10 May 2010 aged 92. Born on 20 January 1918, Wilfred joined The Worcestershire Regiment and served in Malaya.


HILL L Mike Cpl


Of Worcester on 26 February 2010. He enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment in 1947 serving in Germany and Malaya and he was discharged in 1952.


HOLMES Harvey Alex “Holmesy” Cpl 25189142


Of Oldbury on 23 July 2010 aged 74. Born in China on 26 April 1936, he enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment at Birmingham on 27 April 1953 and served with the 1st Battalion. He was discharged on 26 April 1956.


HAY Charles Maj


Of Boldre, Hampshire, in April 2010. Charles Hay was commissioned into The South Staffordshire Regiment in 1948 and joined the 1st Battalion in Lichfield. He served with the Battalion in Hong Kong until 1952 and then served on two operational tours with The Malay Regiment in 1952 and 1954/5 during the Emergency. He served at Depot Lichfield before completing a long spell with both 1st Battalion The South Staffordshire Regiment in Luneburg and 1st Battalion The Staffordshire Regiment in Minden, Colchester, Kenya and Dover.


HEANEY James Brian Sgt 4987151


one of the Battalion’s two Bren Gun Carrier drivers when they flew in at Arnhem. He was one of the lucky ones who made it back across the Rhine. After the War, he settled in Chase Terrace.


HORTON Martyn Simon “Bobby” CSgt 250222942


Of Hyde, Greater Manchester, on 2 May 2010 aged 22. Born on 18 Sep 87, he attended Astley High School in Dukinfield and enlisted into the Army in 2004. He completed the Combat Infantryman’s Course at ITC Catterick in late 2004 and he was posted to 1st Bn The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment in 2005. He deployed on the residential tour of Ballykinler but, because he was under 18, he was unable to participate in Whiterock 05. Nominated for the Close Observation Platoon at an early age, he went on to complete the Sniper Cadre in 2006. Even at this stage, he was identified as a top third soldier with potential for JNCO. He completed his JNCO Cadre in June 2008, finishing in the middle third. On the reformation of Support Company, he moved into the Sniper Platoon. He then completed Section Commanders’ Battle Course between August and December 2009 and he was promoted almost immediately on return. In addition to Northern Ireland, he had served previously in Belize, the Falkland Islands and Iraq. Cpl Holmes was deployed to A Company for the Op Herrick tour as one member of the two sniper pairs; he was attached to 40 Commando Royal Marines Battle Group when he was killed in an explosion near Sangin Patrol Base, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.


HOPLEY James Pte


Of Worlington, Bury St Edmunds, on 14 July 2010 aged 86. He enlisted into The Sherwood Foresters in January 1942 and, in March of that year, he transferred

Of Runcorn on 23 June 2010 aged 34. He enlisted into the Army in 1992, joining 1st Battalion The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment. He had served in the United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Belize, Jordan and Kenya and on operations in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. Promoted to CSgt in June 2009, he assumed the rôle of Reconnaissance Platoon 2ic. Moving from Support Company, he served with B Company during the preparations for, and initial deployment on, Op Herrick 12 in Afghanistan. He was then selected to command a team to train, advise and mentor the Afghan National Police in Gereshk, Helmand province, in order to further develop their capabilities and promote security and the rule of law. On 23 June 2010, following an attack on a police checkpoint near Gereshk, CSgt Horton’s team, with the Afghan National Police, deployed as a Quick Reaction Force to provide support. The vehicle in which he was travelling overturned into the Nahr-e Bughra canal and, at approximately 2208hrs local time, Colour Sergeant Horton died in the incident with three of his colleagues from the Police Advisory Team.


HUDSON Kyle Pte


Of Burton upon Trent on 11th December 2009. He served with F Company 4th Battalion The Mercian Regiment and he had recently returned from Afghanistan after serving with Normandy Company on Op Herrick 10. He died from carbon monoxide poisoning whilst working on his car in his garage.
