Home Telephone On arrival to BATUS, you can arrange your home telephone service with TELUS, or choose another telephone service provider once you have settled in.


Those people housed in Medicine Hat will have a phone line, but will not have been connected to a service, as there is more choice available in Medicine Hat. The following companies all provide home telephone services in the Medicine Hat area:

The housing office is able to provide a telephone until such time that you are able to purchase your own phone. It is often possible to purchase a phone from your predecessor or other departing BATUS personnel. In order to call home to the UK you will need the international code 011 44 and then the UK number minus the first 0.


Call Packages


There are a host of packages offered by TELUS including packages for cheaper international calls. Generally, telephone companies charge a line rental according to which bundle you have chosen. Local calls, e.g. those within the village and to Medicine Hat, are free. Mobile Phones You may be interested in getting a mobile phone whilst in Canada, particularly to have to hand during winter journeys. There are many providers of mobile phones in Medicine Hat, and coverage for this part of Canada is generally good. There are options for pay as you go and contract, however these are a little different from what is offered in the UK, so ensure that you know exactly what you are signing up for.
