Army Dental Services Dental Care
The Dental Centre is located within the Medical Centre, where a British Military Dental Team provides dental care for BATUS personnel. As with other overseas postings, your dental treatment is provided within guidelines comparable to those of the NHS and charges for treatment will be raised in accordance with NHS fees unless exemptions apply. These charges will be recovered from the military head of household’s pay. Some specialist treatment, such as orthodontic treatment, may be provided at a local civilian practice, once approval has been granted by Dental Centre BATUS.
The contact number for Dental Centre BATUS is Tel: 403 544 4508.
All military personnel are treated at BATUS regardless of where they live (Ralston / Medicine Hat / Calgary / Cochrane).
Individuals with ongoing orthodontic treatment must contact their nearest military Dental Centre as soon as possible on receipt of their posting order to BATUS to initiate approval process for continuation of this treatment in BATUS. It is also helpful to bring a copy of your dental records.
Those families that live in Medicine Hat /Calgary / Cochrane must use Dental Centre BATUS unless they would prefer to go to a private Dental Clinic, however Dental Centre BATUS will not pay for patients treatment that has not firstly been approved by the military Dental Officer.
Emergency Dental Treatment Office Hours Sick parade for soldiers and dependants is at 0730hrs Mon –Fri.
Alternatively appointments can be made, by ringing the Dental Centre on the above number.
Emergency Dental Treatment Out of Office Hours Individuals with genuine dental emergencies which arise outside of office hours and who cannot wait until the next sick parade are to contact the military Dental Officer, in the first instance on Cell: 403 581 1370 or the military Practice Manager on Cell: 403 979 1506 or the BATUS Duty Officer on cell 1 403 952 2449. Arrangements will be made for emergency patients to be seen either at BATUS or at a local civilian clinic.
Patients who utilise a local practice in Medicine Hat without a prior referral from the ‘on call’ dental staff, will be deemed to have chosen private dental care at their own expense; charges raised for such treatment will not be refunded by BATUS, the Defence Dental Services (DDS) or the MOD. Patients who are referred to a civilian clinic are asked to bring the paperwork they receive to Dental Centre BATUS on the next available working day this is to initiate the payment process.
