American players coming to Europe for easy pickings in the growing tournament scene found it harder going than they expected and usually went home with less money than they came with. During the 90s they had no major competition wins at all.


But that all changed at the end of 2000. Mike Sexton turned up at the ACF Autumn tournament in Paris and won three events. Phil Helmuth won the PokerEM stud championship in Baden and Scotty Nguyen won the main no limit hold’em competition at the Concord Card Casino, Vienna.

respectable €124,000 for his win from 438 players but Mike and Scotty’s winnings were just €35,000 and €21,000 – an indication of how much tournament pools have gone up over the past decade.

Dag Palovic of Bratislava challenged Czech PokerStars Team Pro and EPT Vienna runner-up Martin Hruby to 75 $200 heads-up matches online at PokerStars and unfortunately lost by just one game. His forfeit was have his hair cut and dyed white during a break of EPT Prague’s main event and to have a red Pokerstars spade blazoned on the back of his head. Had Hruby lost he would have had to wear fake dreadlocks until the end of the year.

WSOP 2008 Champion Peter Eastgate created a little controversy in the Poker world in November after choosing to sell off his bracelet on eBay all in the name of charity. The bracelet, made by Swiss watchmakers Corum, is cast in 18- carat white gold and studded with 291 individual diamonds. Among those wanting to secure

Insgesamt wurden 116 Gebote abgegeben, und das Höchstgebot belief sich auf $147.500. Wer es abgab, wurde bisher noch nicht bekannt, das Geld wurde aber von Eastgate bereits an die UNICEF gespendet.


Der Däne erklärte: „Ich bin natürlich auch heute noch extrem stolz auf meinen Titel. Aber das Armband trage ich nie,


weil ich einfach kaum Schmuck trage. Daher habe ich mir gedacht, wenn ich das Armband und die Uhren versteigere, können hoffentlich viel mehr Menschen davon profi tieren als nur ich.“

Hätte Hruby verloren, hätte er bis zum Ende des Jahres falsche Dreadlocks tragen müssen.
