Spanish Poker Tour Grand Finale fi nal table



The poker year came to an exciting end with several large

tournaments. At the 2010 Spanish Poker Tour Grand Finale held at the Gran Casino Costa Brava in Lloret del Mar, 120 European poker players battled it out for a e360,000 prize pool - the biggest in Tour history. The poker year came to an exciting end with several large tournaments. At the 2010 Spanish Poker Tour Grand Finale held at the Gran Casino Costa Brava in Lloret del Mar, 120 European poker players battled it out for a e360,000 prize pool - the biggest in Tour history.

And, although there were

several high profi le Spanish players competing in the event, among them well known pros Raúl Páez, Catarina Santos and Javier Martinez Gil (2009 Spanish Poker Champion and winner of the 2010 SPT Ibiza) the top four were all from outside Spain.

Germany’s Marvin Rettenmaier dominated the fi nal table to

win the Main Event and cashed 111,000. Joining Marvin at the fi nal was the last woman standing, France’s Claire Renaut (2nd -  60,000) and two Dutch players the Live the Dream Team’s Koen de Bakker (3rd - 36,000) and defending 2009 SPT Champion, Team Everest’s

Steven van Zadelhoff (4th - 26,500).

Leo Truche, the Live the Dream

Team member from France who did not cash in the Main Event, took his vengeance by winning both the Side Event and the Fun Event in Lloret. Everest Poker invited the top players of the tour to play a 48,000 SPT MVP Freeroll (5 per cent of the Tour’s total prize-pool) on the eve of the Grand Finale. Spain’s Leo Margets (your correspondent’s favourite Spanish Poker Poster Pin Up) was the fi rst place fi nisher, taking home 15,500.

Tour and after the huge turnouts in Castellon, Sevilla and Lloret, the 2010 Spanish Poker Tour was the most successful ever.

Elsewhere Belgium’s Kevin

Vandermissen won the Full Tilt Poker Series Grand fi nal in Barcelona. After four days of play between 194 players Vandermissen dominated the fi nal table and went into the fi nal heads up against Switzerland’s Michael Schuerpf with a massive chip lead. As expected, the heads up didn’t last long and Vandermissen picked up the winner’s cheque for 150,000. Michael Schuerpf took home

100,000, the fourth time that he has cashed in international tournaments

while German Dominik Nitsche took 70,000 for third.

Down in Marbella brother and sister Miguel and Paqui Cortijo had a weekend to remember. On the Friday Deepstack Turbo tournament, Miguel, a well known and respected player at Casino Marbella, beat over 70 other

players for the win, took home over 4,000 for his victory, while on the Sunday it was the turn of sister Paqui, who took victory in the weekly Bounty Tournament and collected 2,600 in prize money. An excellent weekend for the family!

And fi nally, if you’re

looking for bit of Bellagio glamour but don’t want to fl y over to the States, then your prayers may have been answered. Benidorm announced that it wants to become the Las Vegas of Spain with a new initiative that will allow 4 and 5-star hotels to host mini-casinos inside their premises. The initiative was

proposed by Hosbec –

Benidorm’s hotel association and so far has received support from Benidorm’s town hall. Toni Mayor, Hosbec chief said:

Belgium’s Kevin

“It is important to do it as quickly as possible, as our future depends on attracting this type of tourist.” Vegas style glamour in Benidorm? I’ll keep you posted!

Wishing you all the best at the tables for 2011!
