own regular slot on Deja Vu Fm, so we are sure that you are receiving alot more

attention nowadays from both males and females, has this all been good?! And are you making the most of the female admirers! Col J: I have been doing radio for about only 2 years, I have always been on the DJ scene in and around London for years. Let me tell you something, the buzz you get when you play on radio is different to anything else. It’s your world, your environment, your rules!!! I remember starting on an internet based station called Vertex FM which was my 1st radio experience. I had then moved onto East London Mystic Radio and Urban Love Radio where my fan based just sky rocketed. I came into the game kinda naive because I didn’t think so many people still listen to radio. Just surprised me. It was an honour to receive more bookings from radio and more followers. It’s crazy to feel that you go to an event and people already know your name and ask for podcast or CDs. Even this year I had DJ and performed at an event called T-Fest in Thurrock, Essex.

At this event I played in front of 10,000 people that was nerve-racking. They also gave me the opportunity to host the show too, so the female attention comes along with it and am flattered from it. At the end of the day, the volume of people who follow DJs shows and events are the ladies. How- ever like I said you can’t let it go to your head, because that is how you become arrogant. A lot of people have a lot of followers and meet new people all the time and some- times forget the people who helped to get them there in the first place. So always hav- ing respect for your fan base whether it be ladies or gents is an absolute must, because you never know how long they will be around for.

Kix: Have you always wanted your own radio slot and if so which station would you dream of working for? Col J: I have been listening to DejaVU FM from when I was in school so I feel this is where I belong right now. Being involved with a station that is 14 years strong in the game and haven’t lob-sided at all is an excellent acheivement.

Every DJ wants to be on the big radio, the big screen, the big time. Choice FM and 1Xtra have always been the most preferred commercial stations I have wanted to be involved in. I was involved in the Choice Fm Street team a couple years back when me and my cousin Chris Samuels performed at Fabolous Fridays @ Cameos nightclub in the London West End for a year. Having your own radio slot means that you get to make the rules and engage with your audience properly. I try to make mine as enjoyable and as interactive as possible. And I tell you, there is no better feeling than that!!

Kix: Which DJ’s do you admire and why? Col J: My no.1 DJ that I grew up listening to has to be DJ Fonti from Heartless Crew. This guy was just amazing!! Where other DJ’s would just drop lil bangers here and there and mix UKG and house beats, Fonti kept things different and on your toes. I learnt from him that music isn’t just house or garage or RnB or HipHop. Music is a collection an amalgamation of all of them. So I heard him mix- ing jungle beats into Slow jams.
