From a distance the London taxis feature a picture of a Zebra.
Matthew Etkin-Budge, Managing Director of Hove-based print professionals, Budgeprint is no stranger to vehicle wraps having produced them for some of the biggest and highest profile fleets out there. His company’s recent work for specialist banker, Investec though is really turning heads and may just qualify as one of the most “involving” wraps ever seen.
As part of a rolling campaign involving over 50 vehicles,
including several Mercedes Vitos, Budgeprint produced a distinctive, dominantly white livery and wrapped thirty London taxis in it. The wrap features a picture of a Zebra together with Investec’s livery and it’s attracting a great deal of attention from those who get to see it - especially at close quarters. It’s not until the livery is examined closely that the
image of the zebra is revealed to be composed of thousands of much smaller images of sport events sponsored by Investec. Viewed from a distance the images lose detail and again resolve themselves into the picture of the Zebra. Needless to say, the wrap is inviting a great deal of attention and, according to Matthew, admiration too. At about one and a half gigabytes, Budgeprint
was faced with dealing with one of the largest design files it had ever had to work with in order to produce the wrap. To support the effect of the visually dissolving zebra, the file had to be designed and ripped at higher resolution than would normally be the case because the end result would invite very close examination in addition to its being seen at conventional distances. The wrap was printed on a combination of Metamark

MD5 and MD7 and was liquid laminated prior to its application on the vehicles. Metamark MD class digital materials are well known for their resolution holding characteristics which is just as well. Print resolution needed to be stellar to support the novel visual effect and component colour matching perfect from panel to panel and across the material types. The double-take provoking result is one of the most engaging wraps seen and a credit to both Metamark’s digital materials technology and the Budgeprint’s team’s printing skills.
