ROUTING Feature
.......Continued from page 25 Tekcel has been supplying the sign trade in UK and Ireland for
10 years and its customers constantly rely on their Tekcel routers to not only meet but exceed their customer expectations. “... We take great pride in the quality of the signs we make and
that’s why we have been using a Tekcel router for the past five years ...” says Colin Pestell of GDL in East Sussex. Trevor Cockbill from Centre Signs adds: “... our Tekcel router is
built for high production environments such as ours and its accuracy is simply superb ...”
Recent advances
The Tekcel router range has recently had a comprehensive model revision and customers can benefit from the latest updates. Available in single tool or multi tool change configurations Tekcel routers are more than capable of dealing with the huge variety of material types, including all the plastics, metals, ACMs and woods commonly used throughout the sign industry. Huw Davies from Tekcel explains, “Our latest router models
incorporate advanced engineering techniques and components in their design and construction. The net result is a Tekcel router that builds on an already enviable industry reputation and pushes the performance benchmark even higher.” Advances in routers over recent years are largely due to more
sophisticated electronics, as Liam Hodson of AXYZ explains: “The variety of materials that routers are used to cut hasn’t changed that much. The real advance is that controllers have become more intuitive and machines increasingly self-diagnose and thereby avoid problems that occurred in the past.” “These days a lot of sign makers are using AXYZ routers to
make their own trays for box signs and cutting out and shaping letters in various materials. More customers are taking advantage of features such as nesting to avoid sheet wastage and, as the relative price comes down they’re getting into production of 3D signage. This option is now available on all our machines.”
Tekcel routers feature a unique ‘hole and pocket’ vacuum bed, designed to be the most effective hold down router bed on the market.
Training and support
Machine manufacturers want customers to get the best out of their equipment and the leading companies provide training and technical support as part of the purchase package, along with installation and delivery. For example, all purchasers of AXZY routers have the benefit
of two days tuition, covering topics such as software, machine and controller, simple diagnosis and preventative maintenance training. “Most sign makers who are used to software on graphic design
usually find the software on routers not that difficult but the applications and knowledge of specific cutting techniques are important and often not as obvious, and that’s where our expertise can make all the difference,” says Liam Hodson of AXYZ. As well as onsite training, Tekcel offers a wide range of after
sales support, including free telephone support, annual servicing, extended warranties, and advanced training. In addition, Tekcel has its own machining ‘feeds and speeds’ database where customers can access valuable information on many different CNC applications. Julian Sage at Tekcel says: “... the majority of our calls from
customers are of a ‘How do I rout this or that material and what tool should I use?’ Of course, we’re always happy to help.” Huw Davies of Tekcel adds: “It’s very important to us that our relationship with Tekcel router owners is viewed ongoing partnership.” Under- standably, some companies require more support than others and we’re more than happy to help out whenever we can.” If you’re just beginning to think of
investing in a router, interested in leasing a machine, or want to know what the latest router could do for your business, contact a reputable manufacturer to find out more. Think about what you want from your router, speak to users of different machines, find out what service and support includes. Time spent on research now could save a lot of money and hassle in the future; choosing
the right router could be one of the best business decisions you make in a long time.
