Local Band Celebrates 20 years in the game. ( They don’t look old enough ! ) This photograph was taken at a recent Charity Gig organised by Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper) of Coronation Street fame. The local band The Backbeats are celebrating their 20th year of playing "Sixties Music" and were delighted when Julie invited them to conclude her fundraising evening with dancing and singing along to songs by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Cliff Richard ( can you believe he’s 70 ), The Kinks, The Searchers and many more top named Bands from that era. The photograph includes (from left to right) Nick Mackey (Bass and vocals), Paul Blakey (Drums) Tony Bate (Lead Guitar and vocals), Jennie McAlpine (Fizz Stape), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper), Shobna Gulati (Sunita Alahan), Barrie Lancaster (Rhythm Guitar and vocals). The Backbeats were re-formed 20 years ago and have played for many private clients celebrating everything from Christenings ! to Diamond weddings as well as Corporate clients and numerous charities, assisting the latter to raise funds for good causes. Rhythm guitarist Barrie is a member of The Rotary Club of Clitheroe and, with the help of The Backbeats, has raised in excess of £20,000 for Life Education Centres for Lancashire over the past 10 years. They have enjoyed gigs from as far apart as Berkhamstead to Melrose, Whitby to Walney Island and played for a number of years in North West Cumbria. Amongst their favourite Gigs have been The Matthew Street Festival in Liverpool as well as prestigious occasions such as Catenians District conferences and various Ladies Nights for Rotary, Round Table and Masonic Lodges. They recently played at the famous "Hard Days Night Hotel" in Liverpool (the Beatles themed Hotel) and say that Liverpool is their spiritual home with The Beatles being their primary influence. More locally, they appeared at The Grand in Clitheroe and hope to be playing there again in the not too distant future. Check The Backbeats website

A lady went into a shop and picked up a can of fly spray. She handed it to the shop assistant and asked “ Is this good for wasps ?” The assistant looked at the can and said “ No madam, it will kill them.”
Frank was setting up a sundial in his back garden when his neighbour asked him, “ What’s that for?” Frank stopped to explain, “The sun hits the small triangular spike and casts a shadow on the face of the sundial. Then as the sun moves across the sky, the shadow also moves across the calibrated dial enabling a person to determine the correct time.” “Blimey!!!” said the neighbour. “Whatever will they think of next.”
Don’t forget the clocks go back an hour on 31st October to mark the end of British Summer Time. What summer time ???? You call that a summer ? So we now have months of dark nights, cold, wet, windy, snowy, frosty, sleety, miserable, days to look forward to. Arghhhhhhhhh. Well, as Billy Connolly once said, There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing.”

Confucius Say. Man who fight with wife all day get no piece at night. Man who run in front of car get tired. Man who run behind car get exhausted. Man with one chopstick go hungry. Man who eat prunes get good run for money. Man who drive like hell bound to get there. Man who stand on toilet is high on pot. Man who lives in glass house should change clothes in basement.
