Lewisham College were awarded a grant in July 2006 to support learners who could not


afford the required protective clothing and equipment for catering programmes. Four weeks into their programmes learners are required to purchase uniforms and in the past this expense has led to a large drop out. A small element of the grant was also used for transport costs in cases where employers would not cover such costs. Local opportunities are limited so it is vital that learners travel further afield in order to gain a wider experience of the industry. In their evaluation the College reported the following output/outcomes:-
