Interview | ROBYN CHACHULA

jewellery, pottery, painting, making furniture, building and home renovations – the list goes on. I love working with my hands and will try anything. I always have a number of crochet projects laying around as well. Just for pleasure. Granted, crocheting for work is still quite a joy for me, too! I also like to knit to relax. It is also really helpful for my hands and my wrist muscles.

IC: How often do you teach crochet?

RC: I teach crochet as often as I can, usually a few times a year. It was hard to teach a lot in the last two years, with

my pregnancy and baby daughter, but I still try to teach a couple of times a year. I love teaching – I get so inspired by my student’s joy of learning that it pushes me to learn more and fi nd more things to teach them. I love seeing that spark the fi rst time they learn something new and love it, whether it’s a new-to-them stitch or technique.

IC: If you could off er a top tip to all crocheters out there, what would it be? RC: Do not be afraid of mistakes. It kills me when crocheters second guess themselves and think a project is too hard for them because, in the long run, who is going to know that you made a mistake? Nobody, so keep crocheting!

IC: What’s your favourite thing to crochet? Do you crochet for yourself?

RC: My favourites are motifs. I just love seeing what fabric they will create when they are all put together. Since my baby was born, I can’t fi nd time anymore to crochet garments for myself, so I have been crocheting jewellery.

IC: Is there a particular yarn that you love working with? RC: I love all merino wool. Any gauge. It just sings off my hooks and has amazing stitch defi nition.

BABY BLUEPRINT Robyn’s new book is

coming out this autumn. It’s full of bright and fun baby clothes and will also teach crocheters how to use charts and diagrams!

IC: What made you start up your website? RC: I started my website and blog as a way to show my family and friends what was going on in my life. We don’t all live close together so it was really great to be able to display my goings on. Now I tend to use the blog as a way to keep me focused and inspired. I fi nd that it’s easy to get overloaded with so much going on, so I love being able to look back and use that to inspire me to do more. I created the website once I really started to crochet professionally. I use it as my business card almost, where you can buy patterns from my ‘Crochet By Faye’ pattern line, fi nd out where I will be teaching or fi nd links to books that I have written.

IC: Have you got any future ideas or ambitions? RC: Right now, I’m working on a new book Baby Blueprint with Interweave Press, which I’m so excited about! I am in the conception stage and am sketching out lots and lots of fun fashion.
