WEARABLE CROCHET SCULPTURES Designer Johan Ku showcases magnifi cent crochet art that you can actually wear!

fter winning the Avant-Garde prize in Gen Art Style for his 'Emotional Sculptures' collection just last year, Johan Ku's designs have become increasingly popular throughout the course of 2010.

His designs experiment with three-dimensional hand-knit and crochet techniques, which were presented in 'Emotional Sculptures' through voluminous designs of reconstructed fabrics and

fi bres, all crocheted together beautifully.

The fashion and textile artist's signature design aesthetic uses sculpture-like silhouettes and unique materials, fashioned from things like raw wool tops, giant needles and even his own fi ngers! But it's Johan's experimentation with form (overstated volume and gauge that knows no limits) combined with his imaginative use of crochet, knit and needlepoint techniques that has crossed the designer into different fi elds – from high-end fashion to ready-to-wear crochet sculptures!

Johan's solo exhibition ‘Breakthrough’ showcased these over-scaled crochet, knit and fi bre collections, and was shown at the Taipei Fine Art Museum in March. It has since been defi ned as a novel form of fi ne art sought by international collectors and has also led to his latest cooperation – the album cover outfi ts for established Chinese pop music group S.H.E. Look out for more of Johan's crochet-knit fashion statements!

'COME DINE WITH KATE' EXHIBITION Kate Jenkins exhibits crochet in fi ne dining!

nown for her knitted and crocheted art (as well as fashion and accessories that emphasise colour, texture and innovative details), Kate Jenkins has now managed to charm patrons on the cutting edge of the modern art scene with her unique crocheted portrayal of the perfect dinner party!

Kate's newest exhibition (featured at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, London, in July) saw fi ne wine, fi ne entertainment and, of course, fi ne food all recreated in yarn to create this remarkable display of framed original pieces.

From sequinned canapés and embroidered Champagne to crocheted knives and forks, every element was meticulously crafted in this novel take on crochet artwork. We can't wait to see what future yarn-craft innovations the artist has in store! To see more of Kate's work, visit www.cardigan.ltd.uk
