Latin II
Students continue their introduction to Latin with fundamental building blocks in four key areas of foreign language study: listening comprehension, speaking, read- ing, and writing. Students master common and some specialized vocabulary terms and phrases; comprehend a wide range of grammar patterns; generate language incorporating basic and some specialized vocabulary and a range of grammar pat- terns; analyze and compare cultural practices, products, and perspectives of an- cient Roman culture; regularly assess progress in proficiency through quizzes, tests, and speaking/writing submissions. Each week consists of a new vocabulary theme and grammar concept, numerous interactive games reinforcing vocabulary and grammar, reading and listening comprehension activities (based on authentic Latin texts about Roman and Greek myth), speaking and writing activities, and cul- tural presentations covering significant aspects of Roman culture or their modern- day manifestations, and assessments.

Mandarin I
This is a beginning level course that will introduce the student to a variety of areas of Mandarin Chinese (simplified). In this course, the student will learn listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through activities that are based on pedagogi- cally proven methods of foreign language instruction. Grammar is introduced and practiced in innovative and interesting ways with a variety of learning styles in mind. Culture is sprinkled throughout the course in an attempt to help the learner focus on the Chinese speaking world and their culture, people, geographical loca- tions and histories. The course is aligned to national Foreign Language standards.
