children merges with maturity and wisdom. This enriches our rela- tionships with the healing power of joy. When we do not love enough, we cannot relish the silent joy of the deepest night, the glowing joy of the sun- shine’s warmth or the delicious joy of our beloved’s smile.

When we live as our true nature we

radiate the joy of true content- ment. This requires open-heart- edness, vulnerability and trust. Meditation, yoga, making love, dancing, being with nature all take us more deeply into our bod- ies and more deeply into the innate joy of being. Through uniting with the joyous essence we knew as chil-

dren, we then live and love

more fully.

Relinquishing excess clut- ter, thoughts,

emotions, people or possessions

that drain our energy leaves more space for

the unfolding of a joyful heart. Joy is a precious treasure that sparkles with pristine clarity whenever the grime of emotional negativity and worldly pressures is smeared from the mirror of life.

The joy of gratitude is the gratitude for life. Being grate- ful for life’s simple blessings and pleasures gives rise to humility, reverence and spontaneous joy. It is beneficial to give thanks for the many gifts that bring joy and gratitude into our hearts. Grati- tude for everything we receive is an act of silent joy that ripples across the earth and into the universe like a pebble tossed into a pool.

Children are so absorbed in the joy of being that they have no concern for tomorrow. Fully present in their bodies, they are deliciously content with the sim- plicity of now. Without the heavy burdens that many adults carry, they live from the heart of being. A child finds immense joy in the beauty of a shimmering butterfly, crawling beetle or tiny frog. Such pleasures do not require time, but an open-hearted delight in life’s many wonders. The eternal child lives within us all, asking us to stop being so serious about things that are not important and asking us to return to our infinite foun- tain of joy.

Every one of us has something to give somewhere in our busy day. The more that we give joy- fully and unconditionally without

resentment, withholding or fear of losing, the more we have to give. It is good to ask daily, “Did I give openly or allow someone the joy of giving to me? Did I give joyously to life or receive the joy of life’s many pleasures? All of nature is alive with the joy of being. Every moment, Mother Earth rejoices in the beauty of her glorious creation. The breeze caressing the trees, the sunlight dancing upon the water, the branches reaching for the sky, are all an integral part of the universal dance of joy. Whilst our planet is ravaged with the horror and destruction of terrorism, pollution and wars, the birds still sing joy- ously and the blossoms still open sweetly. If, as current predictions warn, the world as we know it is nearing annihilation, somewhere, a fragile seedling will struggle to reach the sunshine from beneath the rubble. Somewhere, a tiny baby will gurgle with delight and a playful child will smile. The joy of creation will always be here to conceive a new beginning and to sing its song of life.
