partner, Robin Edgell, who for 3 years has volunteered her time and talent to the cause, along with Marathon of Miracles, Survivor Celebration, gotsunblock.com and other wellness, prevention and support programs that have made education and awareness possible in a harmonic, choir-like fash- ion. My Sisters carried my message. The Foundation is merely the light that leads the way. Thanks to Cancer, I believe in angels on Earth.

I also, finally understand the phrase, “It’s happening FOR you; not TO you”.

This experience could have been anything I chose for it to be; I could have written the story from any per- spective I chose. I chose to live it and write about it in the light of gratitude, and to excavate the beauty in the life I’ve been trusted to live and share.

From rain will come flowers, every time.

Knowing your ABC’s could save your life.

The ABC’s of skin cancer are commonly used as a benchmark for possible biopsies. Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, and Evo- lution, are your five starting points in determining if your mole is normal, or NOT.

A. Asymmetry- Asymmetry is when one side does NOT match the other side in shape, color or thickness. Like a butterflies wings, it should look the same on both sides.

B. Borders- The Borders of a mole should also be even; consis- tent. If any edge is scaled, faded, or darkened, schedule some time with your dermatologist.

C. Color- The color of a mole should be the same from one side to the other. Any variance in color (Black, Brown, Red, and even Blue), is a serious sign that your mole could be Melanoma, and not Benign Nevi. See your Dr. immediately.

D. Diameter- The Diameter of a mole over 6mm needs to be monitored by a physician on a regular basis. Melanoma can cer- tainly be smaller, but typically a mole this large, even at birth, offers a red flag to Melanoma and other skin cancers. (Hint: 6 mm is about the size of a pencil eraser).

E. Evolution- If a mole changes in size, shape, color, or symmetry, or if it itches, scabs, bleeds, or oozes, call your dermatologist immediately.

Melanoma is a curable cancer if detected early. Melanoma also has one of the highest death rates of all cancers. 72 people worldwide will die from Melanoma Skin Cancer today alone, as we continue to search for a cure.

There is no turning back time when it comes to the damaging ef- fects years in the sunshine, or even minutes in a tanning bed, but knowledge is power, and a 15 minute self-exam could save your life.
