It's fabulous value and it's still not on the mass- tourism radar. Bulgaria, brimming with history, tradition and splendid architecture, offers summer fun in its Black Sea resorts, winters on the ski slopes and year-round festivals. There is a huge choice of accommodation (including in monasteries) and whatever your client is looking for – quiet, lively, action-packed, sporty or romantic – Bulgaria can likely deliver.

This timeless land is perfect for summer sun and is also one of the best-value winter sports destinations around. Locals are helpful and hospitable and the cuisine – a blend of Slavic
and European – is hearty and tasty. Bulgaria has Blue Flag beaches and the most popular resort is the family-friendly Sunny Beach with nightlife galore, restaurants and water parks. A lively resort between May and September, its shallow waters make it safe for children. Two airports, Bourgas and Varna, are nearby. For skiers Bansko, at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, offers reliable snow in winter but the resort is also popular for hiking, climbing, biking, riding and rafting in summer. Other ski resorts include Vitosha, Pamporovo and Borovets.

When to sell
Visit Bulgaria during the summer months and sunshine is pretty much guaranteed. In July and August expect temperatures of around 30°C while in spring and autumn temperatures hover around 20°C with the odd rain shower. December–February is the best time for skiers.
