What’s new Operators: Operators such as Travelbag,
Travel2 and Virgin Holidays are all enjoying growth to Dubai with family travel tipped as the biggest growth area. Ian Scott, Dubai Tourism, says: “Dubai can now compete with the likes of the Canaries. Family travel is the future market with more hotel capacity and a softening of prices outside peak times, making today’s Dubai more affordable, especially with summer deals.” Kevin Coles, Stella Travel Services, reports UK
bookings to Dubai are consistently in double digit percentage growth. He says: “Low fares and rates offered by the carriers and hotels represent incomparable value. The decline in Russian holidaymakers to Dubai has led to an abundance of summer availability and offers we’ve never seen before. We anticipate a very strong sales growth period throughout
the summer, especially the family market.” Accommodation: The latest count of Dubai hotel rooms showed 93,030 hotel keys available in January 2015 and that fi gure is forecast to rise to over 140,000 by 2020 with at least 21,000 added by the end of 2017. While fi ve-star hotels and deluxe apartments comprise 22% of total accommodation, Dubai Tourism is encouraging growth in its mid-market hotel sector too. Among new properties planned is a second Four Seasons to open on the future Deira Islands; while Melia will open in Dubai’s Downtown and InterContinental has plans for Dubai’s fi rst fully solar-powered hotel. Thai group, Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas,
part of The Minor Group, continues its strategic expansion in the MENA region with the Anantara Dubai Creek, a contemporary designed property,
“The best way to see Dubai is on an open top bus tour but taxis are very cheap and the metro is also a fantastic way to get around. Like everything in Dubai it is very clean, safe and efficient”
