Visit USA news... San Diego looks to the UK
Delta staff mob T3 passengers
DELTA Air Lines’ employees
waved off departing passengers at Heathrow’s Terminal Three last month as they surprised them with ‘flash mob dances’ at the check-in and departure areas ahead of flights to the US. The 30-strong troupe, comprising
airport agents, maintenance staff and colleagues from Delta’s joint venture partner Virgin Atlantic, performed in support of Delta’s annual Day of Hope, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society and its local affiliates around the world. Meanwhile, Delta has launched a Heathrow-Philadelphia service, operated by a B757-200 aircraft. Leaving Terminal Three at 10.30, it arrives in Philadelphia at 14.00. The return flight leaves at 18.10 and lands into Heathrow at 06.40 the following morning.

BY STEVE HARTRIDGE A DELEGATION from San Diego Tourism visited the UK with a message for the trade that tourism, and increasing UK visitor numbers, is again a top priority for the Southern California destination. The city, served by a daily British Airways service from Heathrow, was in danger of slipping off the radar of UK visitors after the previous mayor, Bob Filner, in 2013 withheld funds earmarked for the San Diego Tourism Authority, a move which resulted in the temporary closure of that office. But with a new tourism-friendly mayor elected early last
year the tourism
authority is back up to full strength and determined to win its share of California- bound tourists, said Tourism Authority CEO, Joe Terzi.

“We’ve been through a tough couple of
years but are back and looking forward to re-energizing our trade relations, particularly here in the UK, one of our most important markets,” said Terzi. The San Diego Tourism Authority was in the UK to highlight the launch of a new documentary on the city, which premiered on National Geographic on May 8. San Diego is best known for Seaworld
San Diego but other attractions include one of the US’s top zoos (where rare wildlife includes giant pandas), and The Gaslamp Quarter (pictured), a dining, shopping and entertainment district in one of the city’s most historic areas. Nearby La Jolla numbers a top golf
course, biking trails and sea kayaking among its activities.

permanently grounded after 33 successful missions. Visitors then embark on a small group tour, including a drive past the behemoth Vehicle Assembly Building – one of the largest buildings in the world – and a panoramic photo stop overlooking rocket launch pads at the Launch Complex 39 Observation Gantry.
