With some of the world’s most luxurious resorts offering fantastic value and low-season deals, there’s never been a better time for selling the islands of Mauritius and Réunion, says Lauren Jarvis

L

ying 2,000km off the southeast coast of Africa, the island of Mauritius boasts a stunning coastline, year-round sun,

affordable luxury hotels and an exotic cultural mix of African, Asian and European infl uences, making it a great choice for those seeking a little more than the average ‘fl y and fl op’. “Mauritius caters for all traveller types, from

couples to families and honeymooners. There are some fantastic all-inclusive and adult-only options, and the hotels have worked hard over the years to accommodate the needs of their guests, so whatever type of holiday is required, Mauritius delivers,” says Michael Creighton, Travel 2 Product Manager for Africa (East and Southern), Mauritius, Seychelles & Jordan. Uninhabited until the 16th century, the island’s subsequent visitors have all left their mark – from the French/African-derived Creole language, spoken alongside English to the dazzling Dutch and French colonial mansions sprinkling its landscape, and Asian spices that zing up the traditional cuisine. “Mauritius is fascinating and it is

and it’s very easy and safe to get around.” Those in search of an active break can enjoy

world-class diving, snorkelling and a wide range of water sports; nature lovers will relish exploring the island’s forests, volcanic craters and waterfalls; and golf enthusiasts can play on Championship courses in stunning locations. The island also has plenty to keep

younger guests entertained, including zip- lining, quad biking and dolphin watching adventures. Increasingly popular with families, many of the island’s top resorts now offer fantastic low-season deals, along with exciting kids’ and teen clubs. “There’s never been a better time to go

to Mauritius,” says Johanna Bromiley, Indian Ocean & Middle East Product Manager for The Turquoise Holiday Company. “We’ve seen a big increase in family bookings as there are excellent discounts on offer. The island is also popular with honeymooners, who are combining South Africa with a luxury beach stay in Mauritius.” The neighbouring island of Réunion is also

worth a visit, with some operators offering mul- ti-centre holidays to take in the sights of both. “Réunion is very different and relatively

undeveloped,” says Johanna. “There are only a couple of luxury resorts on the island, so the
