SEMIFINALS SOUTH AFRICA NEW ZEALAND ARGENTINA AUSTRALIA While I count myself a complete INVICTUS

by William Ernest Henley (1849-1903) Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever Gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

kept him going in his darkest hours in prison. The poem was Mandela’s inspiration whenever he lost courage and felt like giving up, like throwing in the towel. Mandela was to use Invictus again a second time to help the Springboks win the World Cup for South Africa. The movie is hugely inspiring,

Racial unrest was not just an idea or a possibility, it actually happened. It has taken a whole generation to all but wipe out racially-prompted unrest, and for most of my peers, racial

sometimes for personal agendas, certain quarters try to play the racial card. We count ourselves lucky that we have wise leaders in Malaysia who refuse to allow this to become an excuse for conflict.

Rugby newbie, this World Cup has got me watching. It is a wonderful feeling when you can get behind a team and support it really whole- heartedly. The All Blacks are truly inspiring to watch, and their Haka dance mesmerizing. Should they win, it will come as no surprise, but it will rouse that fabulous feeling of victory within all who root for them. But Sport is as much about the struggle as the triumph, and for certain teams, just making it to a certain point in the tournament is more than victory enough. Horse polo is my sport, and it is a

team sport. Over the six years I have been playing it, while victories are always sweet, I have come to realize it is truly the struggle and the team effort to get there that is the absolute best feeling of all. Some days you win, some days you don’t. When you do not win, you keep something more to strive towards. And when you do, the victory becomes an amazing memory, and then you set yourself new targets. Good lutck to the remaining teams, and may the best team win! For Mandela, my bet is on South Africa; Hanni and Patrick will root for the All Blacks, while Han Jin and Audrey are backing Australia.
