Cambridge International Airport - Get your clients connected -
O wned and
operated by the Marshall Group
since 1937, Cambridge Airport is one of the UK's best-equipped regional airports. Julie Baxter discovered how and why it is now beginning to make its mark on the leisure traveller’s departure map
Cambridge Airport has a long and impressive history in aviation and is now moving into a new era of passenger comfort and service. Well-established as an important gateway for the east of England, the airport is also ideally positioned for easy access to and from London and offers a rapidly-expanding range of connections to Europe and worldwide destinations. A privately-owned airport, built and developed
by four-generations of the Marshall family, Cambridge International Airport is currently experiencing impressive growth in its passenger airline and executive jet sectors. Its runway can accept aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 757 or Airbus 320 and all regional jet types, and has all the air traffi c controls and navigational aids necessary to make it suitable for both short- and medium-haul passenger airline services. Most notable among recent service additions is the growth of international services from the airport offered by leading European airline CityJet, which now offers Dublin and Amsterdam; and Etihad Regional, which fl ies from the airport to Verona. Jersey is also served from the airport by a C.I Travel charter operated by Blue Islands. The Amsterdam connection has also opened up access to long haul destinations as it allows passengers to make easy onward connections to a wide range of destinations including the US and Asia. CityJet uses Fokker 50 aircraft with spacious
legroom and leather seating, and all fares include a complimentary luggage allowance of 23kgs hold luggage and a complimentary snack and drink service. These aircraft
have a capacity of 50 passengers so can offer a personalised onboard service. Steve Jones, Managing Director at Cambridge
International Airport, said: “We are focused on providing quality customer service, reliability and hassle-free travel. We couldn’t be happier to welcome CityJet to Cambridge and the east. CityJet's close and lasting partnership arrangements with other airline partners gives Cambridge its greatest-ever worldwide reach and offers travellers in this region signifi cantly more choice and convenience with regards to both long and short haul travel connectivity." Flights into Amsterdam from Cambridge arrive
into the same airport terminal passengers need for onward international connections, and their baggage can be checked through. Using Cambridge International Airport has other benefi ts too. The airport has recently undergone an upgrade in passenger facilities and offers an extensively-equipped and up-to-date modern terminal with excellent facilities for leisure travellers. It can now accommodate up to 150 passengers and facilities include a Costa Coffee, complimentary wi-fi and lounge-style ambience. The airport provides dedicated 24-hour security, and with private airside vehicle

access available and no battling for runway slots, passengers are pretty much guaranteed a fast and professional route in and out of the Cambridge area and the UK beyond. Opening soon in the check-in area of the
newly-refurbished terminal will be the fi rst Fred. Olsen Travel store in a local airport. The company has seven high street
stores and will offer leisure and business travel services from this airport base. Fred. Olsen Travel’s Managing Director, Steve Williams, said: “Our decision was based on shared values; like the airport, we believe in offering our customers a fi rst-class experience, with professional, attentive staff, an excellent product and great value pricing. Plus, the airport location is ideal: just three miles outside the city, with easy access from all major road networks for all our customers across East Anglia.” For clients who want to overnight
in Cambridge before or after their fl ight, the city offers a wide choice of accommodation and plenty to see and do. Home to the famous university, King’s College Chapel and punting on the river Cam, it is a compact cosmopolitan city with outstanding architecture, both old and new. The beauty of its ancient centre has been well-preserved to offer
