Reasons for seasons - Events and experiences to shape a booking - SRI LANKA
White-water rafting in Sri Lanka is at its best from May to December, particularly on the scenic Kelaniya Ganga, where The Bridge on the River Kwai was fi lmed. Meanwhile, wildlife watchers and twitchers will enjoy the November-April period. Check out the plains at Uda Walawe National Park (for birds, elephants, buffalo, deer, sloth bears and leopards) to Muthurajawela Marsh, a wetland with purple herons, crocodiles, monkeys and otters.

ARGENTINA
Argentina is home to some of the best polo players and ponies in the world, so don’t let clients miss the crowning event of the polo calendar, the Argentine Open Championship (November/December), featuring a heady mix of top players, European royalty and tourists. This is also the season to visit Patagonia to see penguins (October-March) and whales (until December).

RWANDA
A perfect suggestion for intrepid adventurers, with the short dry season (December-February) the best time for gorilla trekking. If this window is too short, the rainy season (March-June) offers equally thrilling opportunities to observe chimpanzees in their stunning natural habitat. Gorilla trekking is also on offer in neighbouring Uganda.

JAPAN
For clients seeking one of nature's explosions of colour, the wondrous and evocative cherry blossom blooms in Japan should be high on their list. Although the exact dates vary year to year, depending on location and weather, January-May is the time to practice the traditional pastime of hanami – a picnic under a sakura (Japanese Cherry) tree – in Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka.

ENGLAND
From November to February, clients can embrace the winter in London. There’s a real thrill to skating against the backdrop of London’s iconic buildings and landmarks. At Canary Wharf there's a unique ‘skate path’ under fairy-lit trees, while Somerset House and Hampton Court also put visitors on thin ice. Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park has skating, a Magical Ice Kingdom, Giant Wheel and Zippos Circus.

FINLAND
Suggest a magical family excursion to meet Santa Claus in his ‘offi cial’ residence at the Santa Claus Village, just outside Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. Apart from meeting the perennially busy elves and receiving a present from the great man himself, other activities include reindeer, husky or snow mobile safaris in snowy forests. For a more 'traditional' experience, venture further afi eld to Levi, Yllas or Saariselkä. visitfi
