malta

exciting destination to explore, from historical treasures and natural wonders, fi estas and carnivals, activity on land and at sea and an eclectic mix of nightlife entertainment.” The Malta Tourism Authority considers the trade an ‘essential partner’ in Malta’s ongoing success story. The island has hosted several key trade conferences in recent years, such as ABTA’s Travel Convention in 2010, the AITO Conference last November and in June this year the ITT conference, which have all paid dividends. Alison Hall, Product Development Manager

for Inntravel, said: “We realised how perfect this fascinating archipelago was for our customers when we visited Malta for the AITO conference, and agreed there that it would make a great addition to our autumn, winter and spring programme. It really is a melting pot of cultures and fl avours, not quite African, not quite European, a defi nite hint of Italy and more than a smattering of Britain.” Last word to Expert in Travel’s Alan Hughes who

said: “My clients continue to head back to Malta due to the fantastic value the island has to offer, from a full range of accommodation options to restaurants to suit every taste and budget. Malta also feels like home from home for many clients and is steeped in history. There are a wide variety of excursions on offer and getting around the island is easy especially with the bendy buses.”

and a great place to learn” PHIL NORTH, MANAGER, DIVE WORLDWIDE

Tourism talk “We have had year-on-year growth for the past six years, with a 9.6% overall increase in 2013. The UK is our most

important source market, accounting for 33% of all tourists coming to Malta, and last year there were 455,000 British arrivals, up 3% on the previous year. “Malta is an extremely safe destination and has become even more accessible with new fl ights. With 7,000 years of history we want to overcome the perception that Malta is a summer sun and sea destination as it also has so much to offer in the winter and shoulder periods.” Alex Incorvaja, UK & Ireland Director, Malta Tourism Authority
