Paradise found in Anguilla

FAM DETAILS WHEN: JUNE, 2013 WHO: THE ANGUILLA TOURIST BOARD WHAT: A FAM TRIP WHY: TO DISCOVER ITS BOUTIQUE HOTELS AND BEACHES

“Anguilla is a secluded but welcoming

and safe island with inviting small and medium-sized boutique hotels and fully-serviced and outstanding villas. The beaches are among the most beautiful in the region and the food makes it a gastronomic paradise. It's the relaxed and hedonistic Caribbean at its best!” Alfredo Benedicto, Global Travel A La Carte

THE HOSTS The Anguilla Tourist Board whisked away fi ve lucky operators to one of the lesser-known Caribbean islands this summer, for a fabulous, educational and eye- opening week-long fam trip.

THE TRIP Flying to the island with LIAT, after an international fl ight with Virgin Atlantic from Gatwick to Antigua, the group was hosted by three of Anguilla's accommodation providers, which refl ected the diversity of the island's product. First stop was Le Bleu Villa

(littleharbourestates.com), which offers luxury villas in a stunning waterfront location. The property has its own beaches, pools and extensive grounds and

accommodation is in fabulous open-style living spaces. From here the group

experienced some of the island's key attractions on an island tour before checking out Anguilla's boutique-style accommodation with a stay at the Anacaona Boutique Hotel (anacaonahotel.com). Located away from mass tourism in the heart of the trendy West End of the island overlooking Meads Bay, this hotel is built in a Mediterranean style with Caribbean colours. From here the group took a boat

trip to Scilly Cay for a tropical lunch, swim and some real chill time before heading on for their fi nal two nights at CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa (cuisinartresort.com). Nestled in the crescent curve of

Rendezvous Bay, this is an intimate but casually sophisticated beachfront resort with 97 luxurious suites and villas.

From here the group was soon back on the water for another boat trip, this time taking in the nearby Sandy Island. They also had time to

experience the resort's award- winning Venues Spa, featuring Aquatherapy. It also features an 18-hole Greg Norman Signature Design Championship Course.

THE VERDICT Natasha Griffi n, Simply Caribbean Holidays, summed up the group's island experience perfectly. She said: "Anguilla is a hidden

jewel of an island in the Caribbean, just a short hop from Antigua or St Martin. It really does have the best food of the Caribbean islands...the abundance of lobster and crayfi sh is wonderful! "The people are so friendly and

welcoming that the island has a really safe vibe about it, making it a great place to enjoy the evenings out. The trip showed us that Anguilla has some wonderful small deserted islands that clients can travel out to by boat for the day and enjoy lunch. This is hard to fi nd in the Caribbean and helps make Anguilla a must-visit island!"

“I would task anyone to travel to Anguilla and not fall in love. From fabulous beaches, amazingly friendly people, a great choice of accommodation and a huge range of dining options, what is there not to love! ” Joseph Rajkovic, 2 J’s Travel

“Anguilla really does capture

everything you need in an island holiday: long white-sand beaches, turquoise sea, great accommodation options and an astonishing range of brilliant restaurants for such a small island. You are defi nitely rewarded for taking the little extra distance to get to this friendly and crowd- free island!” Joni Winter, Tropic Breeze

“White-powder beaches, turquoise

water, amazing restaurants, friendly people, a great selection of hotels and villas suiting different budgets and an authentic Caribbean vibe, this is off the beaten track, not mass market!" Lenka Dohnalova, Ocean Holidays
