special reception and dinner in London to celebrate the August 2 opening of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, in Bristol, Virginia. Close to the Tennessee border, Bristol
has been associated with the birth of Country music since it hosted a set of now-famous recording sessions in 1927, which launched the careers of many of the pioneers of the genre, such as Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. The Birthplace

Museum celebrates the roots of country and bluegrass and has displays and memorabilia as well as its own radio station and a live music venue. Bristol is located along the ‘Crooked
Road’, Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, a driving route through the Appalachian Mountains that links musical-themed attractions. The London event also showed off some
of the many wines produced in a state that is the fifth largest wine producer in the USA, after California, New York, Oregon and Washington. Virginia has over 230 wineries and vineyards and visitors can explore them over 20 self-drive wine trails. There’s also a Red, White and Brew Trail, which showcases wineries, craft
beers – Virginia has over 40 micro- breweries – a cider maker and restaurants serving local cuisine. Or for seafood lovers there’s the Oyster Trail, which links seven of the state’s regions where the seafood is harvested. Commented Diane Bechamps, Vice-
