BY STEVE HARTRIDGE ONE of Sri Lanka’s best-known tea producers is creating a ‘trail’ of upmarket properties that will eventually stretch across the country. Resplendent Ceylon, the leisure arm of Dilmah Tea, has already opened Ceylon Sea Trails, Sri Lanka’s first Relais and Chateaux property. Located a two-hour drive from Nuwara Eliya in ‘tea country’, Ceylon Sea Trails currently comprises four Colonial-era planters’ bungalows, with several rooms in each, connected by walking trails through tea gardens. A fifth bungalow is under construction and will open in October with five bedrooms. Once built, Ceylon Sea Trails will be able to offer 26 rooms and suites in five bungalows located between five

and 15 kilometres apart. Opening in October on the south coast is a beach resort, Cape Weligama. Set on a cliff-top a half-hour drive from Galle, it will feature 40 villas and suites, ocean-facing terraces, private pools and a butler service. Two other properties underway are Wild Coast Lodge, opening in November 2015 on a secluded beach in Yala National Park (known for its high density of leopards), and Red Rocks Beach Camp, which should start welcoming guests in March 2016. The camp will be set on a white-sand beach in Kuchavelli, near the seaport of Trincomalee in the northeast of the country. All Resplendent Ceylon properties

offer all-inclusive rates. dilmatea.com
