District Meetings in the Books for 2014 Incumbent trustees unopposed, await confi rmation of nominations

N

ortheast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative members in three districts gathered this summer and exercised their right to democrat- ic member control. In doing so, they took care of some important cooperative business.

Democratic member control is a unique com- ponent of the cooperative process. It is not only a longstanding tradition, but one of the founding principles on which the cooperative form of government was built.

By registering at district meetings and nom- inating individuals who they feel are best qualifi ed to represent them on the board of trustees, cooperative members do their part to ensure the stability of the entire organization for the foreseeable future.

Meetings this year were held in Districts 1, 3 and 5. Members attending the meetings received complimentary refreshments and gifts before helping the co-op take care of business.

NEOEC staff members took time during district meetings to provide updates on various proj- ects throughout the cooperative.

Prize drawings were held at the conclusion of

each meeting with winners claiming electric bill credits totaling $250, $100 or $50.

All three incumbent trustees went unopposed during the proceedings and accepted nomi- nations to serve another three-year term on the cooperative board. As nominated trustees, they now await confi rmation from the cooper- ative membership during the general election at annual meeting Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Grove Civic Center.

Trustee Dandy Risman hosted the District 5 meeting at the Ketchum High School com- mons area on July 28. A total of 29 members registered at the gathering. District 5 mem- bers Tommy Hanna and wife Dorothy of Afton had their name drawn as the winners of the $250 grand prize electric credit, while Afton residents Martin & Ellen Roberts took home the $100 credit. A third credit of $50 went to Afton’s Bill Ballenger.

Twenty-four District 1 members gathered with incumbent trustee Harold Robertson at the Myaami Community Center on July 29. Prize winners at the District 1 meeting included Ed Bozarth of Miami (who won the grand prize $250 electric credit); Kenny & Tracy Allman >>
