ROB LEUPEN Director Business Operations


Rob Leupen joined TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH in December 1995. In his role as General Manager Human Resources & General Services, Rob was responsible for establishing the company’s personnel and organisational infrastructure until the end of 2009.


He was actively involved in the latter stages of TMG’s involvement in the World Rally Championship and Le Mans in the late 1990s before the company turned its attention to Formula 1 throughout the 2000s. Rob became General Manager General Administration in 2010 before moving up to the role of Director Business Operations one year later, managing all commercial and operational aspects of TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH and TOYOTA Racing.


JOHN LITJENS Project Leader


John Litjens first joined TOYOTA in 1997 to work on the team’s highly-respected Le Mans project, which delivered the legendary TS020. As Race Engineer in 1998 and 1999, John was at the sharp end of a thrilling challenge for victory which redefined the boundaries of Le Mans car development. As the company shifted its attention to Formula 1, John initially became Senior Engineer Integration before assuming the role of Group Leader Chassis Integration. In 2004, John took on the title of Project Leader (Chief Designer) and for the final years of TOYOTA F1 he was Chief Project Leader for new car development.


As TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH began the challenge of developing an LMP1 car for the WEC, John was given responsibility of overseeing the design of the chassis, a crucial role in the team’s fortunes.


JOHN STEEGHS Team Manager


With a background in logistics and parts co- ordination, John Steeghs has a proven track record in operational management in motorsport. After working in motorsport companies first in his native Netherlands then Germany, John joined TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH in the late 1990s as part of the Le Mans programme. As the man responsible for stores and lifing, before evolving into planning and logistics management, his role was critical in ensuring TMG’s Le Mans and F1 cars were properly prepared and serviced.


Having coordinated TMG’s Pirelli F1 testing programme, John was able to make the seamless transition to Team Manager for TOYOTA Racing’s WEC activities. He has wide- ranging responsibilities, from overseeing all team activities at the race events to logistics planning and liaison with race control and WEC officials.
