Sport Division in Japan specifically for the revised WEC technical regulations, which put a particular focus on fuel economy and hybrid systems.
By adding a motor generator at the front axle, additional recovery and boost potential has been achieved. It features an impressive maximum power of 1,000PS, through a combination of engine and hybrid power.
As well as more power, the TS040 HYBRID also manages a 25% reduction in fuel usage compared to 2013, with savings achieved through powertrain, aerodynamic and driving style efficiencies.
TOYOTA Racing has already made a strong statement in the WEC since joining back in 2012. The team has five wins to date, as well as second place in last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, and the team hopes the TS040 HYBRID will achieve more victories in 2014.
Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Team President commented: “We are very much
looking forward to this new season with our new car, the TS040 HYBRID. The 2014 season is an important one for TOYOTA Racing; after two years we have built up a lot of experience and now, with new regulations, all teams start from a level playing field. This is an exciting challenge for us and one we are determined to succeed in. Those new regulations confirm the FIA World Endurance Championship is the proving ground for advanced road-relevant technology in motorsport and this fits perfectly with our approach.”
