WELCOME
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the world of TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) as we embark on another year of growth and development. TMG was founded in 1979, so we are celebrating our 35th anniversary this year by continuing our role as a motorsport and R&D centre of excellence.
This media guide is intended to highlight all the key areas in which TMG is involved in 2014. Whether challenging for victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours, developing next- generation road cars for TOYOTA or delivering engineering services to third parties, TMG, as the Home of High Performance, will be tested and showcased under an intense spotlight.
In 2014, we enter a new phase of our involvement in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), introducing our TS040 HYBRID under new technical regulations. It is important for TMG to use the WEC’s international platform to showcase our technical capabilities and expertise. This helps us drive other areas of the TMG business.
Our motorsport involvement covers a wide range of possibilities. While the top of the pyramid is WEC, TMG is also active in customer motorsport and it forms an important part of our success. This will continue in 2014 with the second season of the TMG GT86 Cup and the introduction of our GT86 CS-R3 rally car.
At TMG, we embrace technical challenges and have proven that we lead the way in automotive engineering, whether for our own motorsport purposes, for TOYOTA’s global R&D programme or for our valued clients who benefit from our state-of-the- art facilities. We use our technology and engineering know-how to find solutions for customers, not only in the automotive industry, but also in other areas.
This year, we were also proud to show our engineering capabilities in a completely different sporting field. Our carbon sled set a new standard in the Sochi Paralympic Winter Games and won two gold medals in the hands of German athlete Andrea Eskau.
Motorsport is in our DNA, and it is our passion, but the skills we have honed over 35 years in the business are being used to innovate in other industries too.
This is what TMG is all about: challenge, innovation and success.
