Meanwhile, TMG also announced the development of a 1.6 litre turbo engine that would be suitable for a range of championship entries including the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The project started in 2010 and the engine ran for the first time in 2012.

The four-cylinder engine started track testing in a rally car in March 2014 as part of a programme designed to expose the engine to the stresses and strains of in-situ running for the first time. The engine will not appear in official competitions in the near future but the initial test shows that TMG continues to develop and demonstrate its position as the Home of High Performance.
