TOYOTA RACING AIMING FOR TOP STEP WITH TS040 HYBRID


TOYOTA Racing enters its third season in the WEC with a new car, the TS040 HYBRID, but the same ambition: to fight for the top step of the podium in all events.


The WEC season features eight endurance races around the globe, including the pinnacle of the season: the Le Mans 24 Hours. TOYOTA Racing, the team run by TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH on behalf of TOYOTA Motor Corporation, will field two TS040 HYBRIDs in each race with the same competitive and experienced driver line up it has had since 2012.


There will be a slight reshuffle in the driver combinations for 2014 as the team looks to maximise the performance

potential in each car. Alex Wurz, Stéphane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima will drive car #7, while Anthony Davidson, Nicolas Lapierre and Sébastien Buemi pilot car #8 for the season. Meanwhile, the team has signed British racer Mike Conway as test and reserve driver to complete an impressive line-up.


Pascal Vasselon, Technical Director, explains: “During the past two years we have witnessed our drivers’ characteristics and strengths. We wanted to optimise the car crews by placing drivers with similar height, driving style and car set-up requirements together.”


The TS040 HYBRID chassis has been designed, developed and manufactured by TMG at its base in Cologne, in response to sweeping changes to the technical regulations aimed at making WEC technology more relevant to road cars.
