One of the strengths of TMG’s design, development and manufacturing process is the integration between departments. As an example, the design and development teams worked closely with the composites department and component testing to create the TS040 HYBRID. A carbon fibre composites lay- up can be optimised through calculation and simulation at the design stage to minimise weight while maintaining structural integrity.
TMG used cutting-edge simulation techniques including hardware-in- the-loop component testing and computational analysis to optimise all elements of the new car. This highly- efficient approach enables individual components to be tested using real track data combined with powerful computer calculations. Optimal designs are achieved more quickly and with fewer resources than traditional methods, such as costly track testing.
With the rule changes seeking energy efficiency gains of over 25%, TMG has also developed an enhanced aerodynamics package for the TS040 HYBRID. While the hybrid system accounts for a significant element, it

and testing In addition to the processing power of computational fluid dynamics or CFD design analysis, TMG also has an extensive software suite for advanced simulation and stress analysis. From individual components, suspension or gearbox sub-assemblies or even complete chassis designs, all elements of the car can be simulated and analysed using real world track data.
These powerful tools are supplemented by TMG’s comprehensive performance test facilities including seven-post rigs, full car simulators and transmission test systems. TMG’s engine test facilities include engine dynos, a cam rig, a radiator wind tunnel, a fuel pump test rig, fuel rail calibration and single injector test and development rig. From individual elements to heat and friction analysis, through to endurance testing, TMG has the tools to design, develop and test any powertrain.
is also critical to optimise airflow and reduce drag. At the same time, tyre widths have been reduced by 5cm in 2014, so additional aerodynamic downforce is invaluable to compensate for lost grip.
Benefiting from two wind tunnels and a powerful CFD cluster, TMG has developed the new highly-efficient aero package for the TS040 HYBRID alongside ongoing client projects. With high and low downforce packages required for
