BELHAVEN BIKES AND DUNBAR SCHOOLS AIM TO REPEAT BIG PEDAL SUCCESS
WE AT Belhaven Bikes look forward to the Big Pedal every year now. It’s a pleasure to help support our local schools’ excellent cycling efforts. The Dunbar schools are aiming to repeat, or better, their success from 2013 when they won their respective categories in Scotland. This was no mean feat as during the event there were some very snowy conditions last year! Belhaven Bikes has supported the event in previous years and we’ll again be offering prizes such as water bottles and free entries to theSPACE skatepark in North Berwick to the pupils and students. In addition, hire bikes from Belhaven Bikes will be able to be used free of charge by parents/supporters who would like to participate in the event, as these journeys also contribute greatly to the points awarded to the school. Free bike safety checks will also be carried out at both schools during the Big Pedal by Belhaven Bikes. Dunbar Primary has a variety of competitions and fun events planned around the event. Parents, supporters and teachers will be given a raffle ticket for each day they cycle to school for entry into a prize draw to win a £25 gift card from Belhaven Bikes. There will be a ‘bling your helmet’ day and during the event there will also be an opportunity for pupils to dress up as superheroes to pedal or scoot to school. Parents and teachers are welcome to join in too! Mandy Cairns Ford Belhaven Bikes Dunbar

SHARK SADDLE MAKES WAVES IN THE BIKE TRADE IT’S FAIR to say that there was a big reaction to the unveiling of the Essax
‘shark’ Saddle, which we first sighted at the International Cyclefit Symposium at The London Bike Show. If you want to see the full story, head to:
tinyurl.com/sharksaddle. In the meantime, here’s a selection of the best responses…

You think you’ve seen it all in cycling and then this comes along.

When your typical bike seat just isn’t uncomfortable enough...
@justlaurren :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Um, that just hurts looking at. Would you use a saddle like this?
@revolights :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Can one of my bicycle nerd friends explain why you would want a saddle that gives you a wedgie?
@sparkletone ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Shark! No this isn’t an early April fool. A new biomechanical saddle. I’m not convinced yet. @BristowsCycles
We’ve had sandbags and pumps at @ShuttVeloRapide HQ. Pics are on our Facebook page.
@Braggpuss
By the way, it occurs to me that white is a VERY bad colour for this.
@bikesnobnyc
That might not be so popular in Western Australia...
@ChappelliCycles
@singletrackmag - looking forward to seeing GritCX. Nothing beats a bit of cyclocross...
@endura
Wasn’t the Sturmey Archer idea originally stolen in the early 1900s?
@alsbikes
A: Well, why would you buy a bike on Christmas when everyone knows the sales are on in January?
@XFmGirl
Hmmm... I question the commercial viability of this bike saddle design
@natemcguire
A: Big increase since Christmas. Mainly ebikes. @BikeMotion1

Damn right it’s “A bit startling”. Who fancies sitting on this saddle for a long ride?
@ThomasDibley
Q: Have your bike sales jumped after a quiet Christmas?
A: Very up and down in my experience, seems to depend on which part of town they’re in and if they do C2W!
