very year, Kiwash Electric Cooperative presents rural teens with opportunities to step out and take hold of their future. Through college scholarships, and Youth Tour, rural teens can further their education, and learn more about their country, their co-op and their peers. The selection process for these programs will begin soon. Please share the following information with your teen and encourage them to participate. We promise they won't regret it.


Scholarship for Rural Teens


Kiwash Electric will award four $500 scholarships to teens attending high school in the co-op service territory. The funds may be used at any two- or four-year college or university, or at any career training or technical school.


Applicants must belong to the co-op or be the child of a Kiwash Electric Cooperative member. To be considered, applicants must submit a written essay or a short video on the topic, "The Seven Cooperative Principles."


Students submitting a video should note the following rules:


• Video must be one to three minutes in length. Only one video entry per applicant.

• Videos must be original and not previously used in promotions of any kind or exhibited publicly through any means.

Opportunities for Rural Teens Kiwash Electric youth programs offer scholarships and travel to DC


Rural Electric Youth Tour


Kiwash Electric will select two teens to represent the co-op on the Rural Electric Youth Tour on June 13 -19, 2014.The all-expenses paid tour of Washington D.C. includes visits to famous historic sites, museums, memorials, cathedrals and cultural attractions in and around Washington D.C. Teens travel with other Youth Tour winners from across the state, forming friendships that last a lifetime.


Kiwash selects Youth Tour winner based on quiz scores and a brief personal interview. The quiz will test the applicant's knowledge of electric cooperatives. The four top-scoring quiz finalists are honored at a special banquet where they will be interviewed by Youth Tour judges. Two winners are announced at the conclusion of the banquet.
