Best Locally Made Ice Cream Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Store

By Mitch Steichen

When Oklahomans say “Braum’s,” it brings to mind scoops of delicious ice cream on a crispy waffl e cone. Braum’s has grown famous for its dairy-based desserts and continues to grow based on the belief of providing locally grown food from its farm and bakery in Tuttle, Okla. “Braum’s ice cream is made with fresh milk from our own dairy herd of 10,000 cows,” said Carrie Burkhart, Braum’s pub- lic relations director. “We are the only ma- jor ice cream maker in this country to milk our own cows. All the extra care taken to make the perfect ice cream is what makes it so special.” Since its beginnings in 1933, the Braum’s family business has followed a dedicated, do-it-yourself approach. By owning and operating every part of production, Braum’s

has developed a truly unique store atmo- sphere. Their combined grill, ice cream fountain and grocery, provide customers with everything from hamburgers and fries, to fresh fruit, to their assortment of ice cream fl avors. “Our ice cream flavors come straight from the Braum’s family, employees and our customers,” Burkhart said. “If we think a fl avor sounds good, we put it through testing, which is how we came up with our most recent fl avor, Molten Lava Cake. This time of year we start on new fl avors and are looking at new sundaes for 2014.” With 300 stores across fi ve states, Braum’s covers just about every part of Oklahoma, meaning you can find Oklahoma Living readers’ best ice cream just around the cor- ner.
