March on Washington, D.C. with OEC  Youth Tour 2014


E


ach year, four talented high school juniors from OEC’s service area are treated to a week-long, all-expenses-paid tour of Washington, D.C. As winners of OEC’s annual Youth Tour essay and speech contest, the winning delegates join over 60 students from Oklahoma and hundreds nationwide as they tour historic sites and national landmarks. T ey also have the opportunity to meet Oklahoma’s congressional delegation and make new, lifelong friends. To enter OEC’s Youth Tour contest, students


must pen a 500- to 1,000-word essay on a given energy topic. T e essay topic for 2014 is:


Cooperatives follow a set of guidelines called the Rochdale Principles. Which one of the seven principles do you fi nd most important and why?


Ten fi nalists attend a banquet in April where they


present speeches on their papers’ topics. Independent community leaders—teachers, journalists and industry experts—serve as judges, grading the students on poise, content, and delivery. T e fi nalists will also complete a short interview with the panel of judges before Youth Tour trips are awarded. Each of the 10 fi nalists is awarded $100 for advancing to the fi nal round in the contest. Interested students can access the complete,
