ABOUT THE MARKET
THE games market within Thailand has undergone rapid growth over the last few years. Valued by video game trade body
SIPA at 6.1bn Thai Bhats (£120m) in 2007, the value of the market has increased gradually before doubling its revenue to THB 12.7bn (£255m) in 2011. This growth has continued and the market is now worth over THB 14bn (£281m).

Despite the rise of mobile gaming experienced across markets throughout the rest of the world, the sector remains the lowest value sector in the Thai games market.
While showing steady growth, mobile game revenue is valued at just THB 195m (£3.9m). But the lowering costs of mobile devices within the region has led to more consumers adopting the handsets to play titles such as Angry Birds, which is the most popular mobile game within the country. Console gaming maintains a healthy market within Thailand as the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii remain highly popular products amongst consumers. The introduction of the consoles in 2007 provided a huge boost to the games market, which remains today and the home console sector accounts for 17 per cent of the market’s total value.
